BASMATI PULAO WITH YELLOW GRAM DAL


INGREDIENTS
Basmati Rice - 2 cups
Yellow gram dal (boiled) - 1 cup
Water - 4 cups (for cooking rice)
Salt - 1 tspn
Chili powder - 1/2 tspn
Oil - 2 tbsn
Cumin seeds - 1 tspn
Cinnamon - 1 inch stick
Green cardamom - 3
Onion - 1 medium
Bay leaf - 1
Cloves - 5

METHOD
1. Soak rice in double water (by volume) for half hour.

2. Cook dal with sufficient water in a pressure cooker (1 whistle on full flame, after that 10 minutes on simmer flame)
3. Strain water and let cool.
4. In a non stick pan add oil and let it heat.
5. Add cumin seeds, cinnamon, cardamoms and cook for a minute.
6. Add chopped onions and cook till golden brown.

7. Add rice and water to the pan.
8. Add salt and chili powder.
9. Add cooked dal and bring to boil.

10. Cover with lid and simmer the flame for 10-15 minutes till all the water is absorbed and rice are fully cooked.

11. Garnish with green coriander leaves.
